And the Lord said to Abram, Go forth out of thy land and out of thy kindred, and out of the house of thy father, and come into the land which I will show thee. I will make thee into a great nation, and I will bless thee and magnify thy name, and thou shalt be a blessing. I will bless those who bless thee, and curse those who curse thee, and through thee shall all peoples on earth will be blessed.
So Abram went as the Lord had told him, and Lot departed with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Charrhan. Abram took his wife Sara, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and every soul which they had got in Charrhan, and they went forth to go into the land of Chanaan. Abram traveled the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Sychem, to the high oak. At that time the Chananites inhabited the land. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to thy offspring.” So Abram built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him. From there he departed on toward the mountain eastward of Baethel, and there he pitched his tent in Baethel near the sea, and Aggai to the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. Then Abram departed and continued toward the Negev.
